“I was truly honored to be among the first to receive an Aase Award. MUN had been a big part of my high school experience, and going to Harvard my senior year was something I worked hard for. The award made it easier for my family to make it possible.”

“Mr. Aase loved his students and behind the scenes he helped those who deserved to attend a big conference but could not afford it. We decided to honor him by carrying that forward.”

“Aase Awards ensure that the hard work, dedication, and leadership demonstrated by these students are recognized and rewarded. Travel grants not only help individual students, but also allow the school to form the best delegation with the most deserving students.”

MUN Advisor, Class of 1999
When legendary MUN teacher Lynn Aase died in April 2021, alumni from the program he founded in 1973 wanted to honor his legacy. We decided a fitting tribute would be to establish the "Aase Fund" to provide financial support to top juniors and seniors who struggle to pay the costs of attending national or international conferences. We formed a nonprofit, the Lynn Aase MUN Legacy Foundation, and began fundraising with the goal of raising $50,00 by HBHS MUN's 50th anniversary in 2023. We met that goal and continue to fundraise.
The Aase fund made its first travel grants in the 2022-23 academic year providing half the costs for two students to attend the Harvard conference. Since then, we have made travel grants each year, enabling top students to compete at top conferences, easing the financial burden on families in need. (See our Awards Made page for the conferences we have supported.)
Your contribution to the Aase Fund ensures that deserving high school students can travel to top MUN conferences no matter their financial circumstances. Every gift is a show of support for the continued success of the program and a tribute to Mr. Aase. We appreciate the generosity of alumni from more than five decades of HBHS MUN history. Thank you for helping to fuel the legacy and forge future leaders.
